In what was undoubtedly the most surprising event of Milan Men’s Fashion Week.
That Domenico Formichetti has conquered the international streetwear scene is something we’ve known for some time now. From Drake to Justin Bieber, Travis Scott to Veneda Carter, style icons have succumbed to the charm of PDF, his most personal project. And there was no better way to celebrate in style than by summoning more than 1,500 attendees to Ex Macello, one of the most charming industrial enclaves in Milan.
At 18h the surprises began. Although we thought we were going to a simple parade, the picture changed completely as soon as we arrived at number 42 Viale Molise, where a big event awaited us, similar to a music festival, with a food and drink area and an impressive stage where the magic would happen.
After two hours of dancing to the rhythm of the best musical selection, it was time to discover Formichetti‘s latest proposal, a declaration of intent with a rebellious spirit, as usual. Named ‘Holy Motor’, the collection finds its ultimate inspiration in the ultimate engine of life and passion, the reason for our existence, our loves and our passions. This is what the designer wanted to convey through powerful graphics and a set design based on car culture.
Bright finishes and vibrant shades took over completely the summer garments, where tartan prints – recovered from the cars of the seventies and eighties – and camouflage were predominant, as well as denim and triacetate in their improved version thanks to the special collaboration with Dainese.
In terms of footwear, the iconic PDF Nuovolas, which pay homage to the hip-hop culture that revolutionised the world and, above all, New York City in the 90s, could not be missing.
But what surprised the audience most was the casting chosen for the occasion. Aron Piper, Alvarito Díaz and Alvin Kamara did not hesitate to wear the designs and walk the catwalk to, later, give way to one of the most exclusive moments of the night: the surprise performances of Ghali, Tony Effe, Tedua, Gaia, Capo Plaza, Bresh, Tony Boy and Astro. A line-up of impact to put the finishing touch to the most fun event on the calendar.
