Musician and artist Don Toliver, together with Nicolai Marciano of GUESS Jeans, has created a 1970s chopper motorcycle. This project, done with the help of custom motorcycle expert Yaniv Evan of Powerplant Motorcycles, has resulted in an engineering masterpiece that required more than 2,000 hours of manual labor.
This is not the first time Don Toliver has worked with Nicolai Marciano on something GUESS-related. Back in 2021, the musician and designer worked together on the creation of a GUESS Originals collection, released simultaneously with Don’s second album, “Life of a Don.” This collection featured custom GUESS logos and graphics inspired by the album’s featured songs. As their friendship has grown, Nicolai has continued to support Don in building the Hardstone world, creating a custom leather wardrobe for his tours and dressing his entire team in GUESS products.
The custom motorcycle serves as an emblem of Don Toliver’s artistic universe, called Hardstone. This universe encompasses fashion, design and music, and his latest album, “Hardstone Psycho,” released in June, is a clear reflection of this. Precisely, the bike represents a fusion of Powerplant’s engineering prowess and the creative dialogue between Don and Nicolai. The bike combines high performance with vintage aesthetics, equipped with a Shovelhead engine that has an electric starter.
Every detail of the bike has been carefully thought out: from the ’90s-inspired chain, the design of which was based on a chain that hung from Don’s pocket when he first visited Powerplant’s workshops, to the custom controls designed to match Don’s boots and attire. The bike has a custom paint job with aged chain effect and rocker boxes engraved with the word “Hardstone” in the original Powerplant font. Everything, down to the bike’s chrome frame, was custom built and tuned for Don, who was actively involved in the build, engraving and parts installation process alongside Yaniv’s team of experts.
Don Toliver and Nicola Marciano’s bike, by the way, is not for sale, so unfortunately all we can do is admire it.
