Ithell Colquhoun was a provocative artist who refused to conform or compromise. Her work is deeply rooted in the occult and nature, and often explores sex and gender. Often overlooked alongside the towering male figures of Surrealism, the collaboration with Tate celebrates her work, this time with Dr Martens boots as a canvas.
Creativity and resilience are part of Dr. Martens’ DNA: its boots have been embraced for decades by artists and people championing underrepresented voices and fighting for progress.
This latest collaboration with Tate imbues the classic 1460 boot with the attitude of British surrealist and occult provocateur Ithell Colquhoun, showcasing two of her most expressive works: ‘Volcanic Flare’ and ‘Example of Decalcomania Technique’ © Tate.
Both boots are equipped with the durable Dr. Martens design: crafted on a ribbed sole reinforced with signature yellow stitching. They also feature the distinctive black and yellow label on the heel. The collection also includes a backpack adorned with both images of the artist.
The collaboration will go on sale on 28 September at drmartens.com and selected retailers.
