Espacio Bruto: the new creative production studio in Madrid

Madrid adds a new space to its creative network with the opening of Espacio Bruto, a centre dedicated to photographic, audiovisual and sound production that moves away from the logic of the traditional studio to function as a flexible infrastructure at the service of contemporary creative processes.

With a total area of 270 square metres, Espacio Bruto has been designed as a completely transformable space, capable of adapting to different scales and types of projects. The architecture allows for working with both controlled natural light and in total darkness, offering precise technical control over lighting, a key element for photographic productions, film shoots, art direction and audiovisual pieces of various kinds. This technical versatility makes the space a cross-cutting tool, valid for both editorial and commercial productions as well as experimental or visual research projects.

The space also has a professional cyclorama measuring 4.70 metres long, 6.7 metres wide and 4 metres high, which expands its technical possibilities and positions it as an environment prepared for more complex productions. Far from functioning as a simple set, Espacio Bruto is conceived as a place where the infrastructure accompanies the concept, allowing teams to work autonomously and without structural limitations.

The architectural project was developed by Guillermo Blasco, whose intervention is based on criteria of functionality, spaciousness and spatial clarity. The materials reinforce an industrial and honest aesthetic that dialogues with the name of the space itself. Here, the ‘bruto’ (rough) is understood as a statement of intent: to show the space and processes without embellishment, prioritising real use over appearance.

Espacio Bruto is an initiative by Valle Jiménez and Miguel Monzón, who conceive the project as a working environment designed from within the creative sector itself. Their aim is to offer a versatile and technically equipped space for creators, producers, artists and multidisciplinary teams who need flexibility, adaptable schedules and a context that does not condition creativity.

The proposal extends beyond the visual. The upper floor houses the headquarters of Relativa Radio, which broadens the scope of the project to include sound production, experimental audio and recording. This coexistence of image and sound makes Espacio Bruto a complete creative ecosystem, where different disciplines dialogue and intersect organically, fostering collaborations and new formats.

More than just a studio, Espacio Bruto has established itself as a key hub within Madrid’s creative scene, responding to the real-world logic behind today’s visual production. It is a space that shifts the focus from the end result to the processes, highlighting the infrastructure, technique and context that underpin and enable contemporary visual production.
