We are talking about one of the most important cultural milestones of the decade.
The influential Japanese artist is preparing her arrival in Europe, with her first stop scheduled for 12 October at the Fondation Beyeler (Basel). The major exhibition, co-produced with the Ludwig Museum in Cologne and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, reviews more than seventy years of her career, including early works never before seen on the continent, unpublished productions and, of course, the famous Infinity Mirror Rooms.
The exhibition covers all the languages Kusama has explored: painting, sculpture, installation, performance, fashion, literature… A comprehensive map of her universe, where polka dots, repetition and infinity become tools for blurring the boundaries between the self and the whole.
‘This exhibition promises to be a feast for the eyes, where you can truly lose yourself in his extraordinary art,’ says Rein Wolfs.
After Beleyer, the retrospective will continue at the Ludwig Museum (14 March – 2 August 2026) and at the Stedelijk (11 September 2026 – 17 January 2027).
