Feng Chen Wang FW24: Memories of Fujian

Feng Chen Wang’s Autumn Winter 24 collection stands as a masterful and subtle fusion of Chinese tea tradition and functional design.

Feng Chen Wang FW24: Memories of Fujian

As the night’s snow was leaving the streets of Paris, Feng Chen Wang kicked off a chilly third day of Fashion Week. 126 Rue de Rivoli became a canvas where the designer was about to materialise her memories of Fujian and, particularly, her tea tradition: an intimate look at her hometown.

Wang turns each garment into a digitised expression of traditional Chinese watercolour paintings. The palette of earth tones, from earthy browns to rich caramels and deep burgundies, as well as moss green, evoke the landscapes of Fujian.

Silhouettes, once loose and relaxed, take on a sense of restraint. Waists are cinched through cleverly incorporated pleats, belts and laces, providing a corsetry-like structure that contrasts with the fluidity of previous seasons. Wang’s maturity and evolution are reflected in these refined silhouettes, like perfectly infused Wuyi Rock tea.

At the heart of the proposal is the iconic ‘white shirt’, stripped to its purest form and reinterpreted to suit any occasion. Dressed under a tailored denim suit, the shirt becomes the canvas for personal expression.

The designer also demonstrates her genius by transforming tea sets into bags, adding a fun touch to the collection. And bamboo, the brand’s distinctive symbol, is still present in bags and now in eyewear, perfectly embodying the Chinese cultural heritage. Rounding off the accessory world, the show culminates in a new collaboration with Converse, featuring Chuck 70s. The teapot-inspired 3D sole is a manifestation of Wang’s deep understanding and expressive innovation, available to those who wish to take a piece of this unique experience with them.

In the designer’s own words, “Autumn Winter 24 is a journey from the physical world to something more spiritual”. An invitation to immerse yourself in the richness of Chinese tea culture and tradition, through the unique vision of Feng Chen Wang.
