The start of the 2026 Formula 1 season arrived with an unexpected surprise for motorsport fans… and brick enthusiasts alike. During the Australian Grand Prix weekend in Melbourne, The LEGO Group unveiled two new display sets inspired by the helmets worn in 2025 by Scuderia Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton. The Danish brand chose the paddock — the exclusive area of the circuit where teams, engineers and drivers move throughout a Formula 1 Grand Prix — as the stage for the announcement, turning the start of the championship into a small spectacle for collectors and motorsport fans.
To celebrate the launch, both drivers were spotted walking through the team area carrying giant versions of their own helmets built entirely from LEGO bricks. The sculptures, around 25 centimetres tall, were designed by LEGO Certified Professional Ryan “The Brickman” McNaught and his team. Each one required around 60 hours of work, weighs close to 3 kg and is made up of more than 3,500 pieces.
The retail versions arriving in stores maintain that same level of detail in a collectible format. The Charles Leclerc helmet (set 43014), made up of 886 pieces, features his number 16, Ferrari’s iconic prancing horse and small personal tributes to his father and to Jules Bianchi. Meanwhile, the Lewis Hamilton helmet (set 43022), with 884 pieces, recreates the design of the seven-time world champion, including his signature number 44. Both sets also include a printed signature plaque and mark the first time Leclerc and Hamilton appear as official LEGO minifigures wearing Ferrari’s red racing suits.
As John Ho explained, designing these helmets presented a creative challenge due to the curves and intricate details of the original object, something the team aimed to replicate as faithfully as possible. The result is a piece designed for both Formula 1 fans and LEGO collectors. The sets are already available for pre-order on the LEGO website and are set for global release on 1 May 2026, just in time for the racing season to arrive on shelves as well.
