ASICS continues to expand its “Crafts for Mind” initiative, a project that invites various designers to reinvent some of the brand’s most iconic models. On this occasion, the Japanese label teams up with Moldovan designer Fidan Novruzova, one of the most exciting emerging voices in contemporary fashion. Together, they present a handcrafted reinterpretation of the GEL-CUMULUS 16.
The result is a high-fashion approach to sports footwear. Novruzova combines her artisanal savoir-faire with ASICS’ technical heritage. She transforms the classic silhouette through the use of premium leather, the same material she uses for her eponymous label. The outcome is a sculptural and sophisticated design.
The new GEL-CUMULUS 16 arrives in two monochrome colourways: “Black” and “Cherry Red.” Its most distinctive feature is a large, square tongue finished with a leather tassel that almost completely conceals the laces. This detail, inspired by traditional footwear such as loafers and brogues, pays tribute to classic shoemaking and the artisanal work that defines Novruzova’s creative universe.
The collaboration debuted during the designer’s Spring/Summer 2026 show at Paris Fashion Week, where the sneakers were paired with structured jackets and tailored trousers, reinforcing their hybrid character between fashion and sport.
As part of the “Crafts for Mind” project, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Fondation Pour la Recherche sur l’Endométriose, supporting research into endometriosis.
The ASICS x Fidan Novruzova GEL-CUMULUS 16 are now available exclusively via the designer’s website.
