Foot Locker x HIGHXTAR: the women’s skateboarding revolution

We teamed up with Foot Locker to celebrate the female skate community through the Vans Knu Skool silhouette.

Foot Locker x HIGHXTAR: the women’s skateboarding revolution

For decades, skateboarding has been synonymous with masculinity, and its image has been perpetuated through the media, popular culture and sports fashion brands. But as society evolves, so does the sport, with a new generation of skateboarders challenging the status quo, wielding their boards as an instrument of change and empowerment. Foot Locker retailer is joining the revolution, contributing to change within the skate community.

Women all over the world are reclaiming their space in skateboarding, that’s why from HIGHXTAR we wanted to join the movement by creating an editorial in collaboration with Foot Locker in which we captured the skaters of Dolores Magazine with the Vans Knu Skool silhouette. An update of the classic Old Skool that travels back in time and works in the present, recapturing the codes of the typical low top skate shoe from the 90s with extra padding.

The impact of this platform goes far beyond that, so we want to put it in context. Dolores Magazine amplifies women skateboarders, showcasing their talent and telling their stories. A safe space and a window to the world for the female skateboarding scene. With each issue, it challenges the male narratives that have long overshadowed women’s achievements. Dolores doesn’t just document history, she shapes it.

But the revolution doesn’t end there. Enter Foot Locker, which is not only the place where OG skaters go to buy their main allies, their sneakers. It seeks to raise the visibility of women in skateboarding, helping to pave the way for a more inclusive and equitable future.

Thanks to the support of retailers like Foot Locker and the visibility of platforms like Dolores Magazine, women’s skateboarding is breaking down gender barriers. Together they are proving that skateboarding is not just a sport, but a movement fueled by passion and perseverance that has the power to break down gender stereotypes. And as more women pick up their boards and skate, they are not only rewriting the rules of skateboarding, but also the rules of society itself.

This is how Foot Locker celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Nike TN.
