With this initiative to be launched later this year, France is seeking to set a precedent in the fight against waste and to promote more sustainable and responsible fashion.
The country seeks to reduce fashion waste by encouraging citizens to repair their clothes instead of throwing them away. Consumers who take their garments to be mended will receive between €6 and €25, depending on the type of fabric and the complexity of the restoration.
This program, financed by the local government through a €154 million sustainability fund over the next five years, aims to promote the purchase of high-quality garments that will last over time. It also hopes to boost the activity of local tailors and shoemakers by allowing stores to participate in the project free of charge.
