GAUCHERE continues to focus on the wearer and their real life this season. For the second time in a row, Marie-Christine Statz meets us at Passage des Jacobins to reflect the mood of her collection.
At the heart of GAUCHERE is the art of tailoring, the appreciation of materials as they are and the expression of design in pure geometric structures and sculptural volumes. This FW23, they wanted to celebrate their pillars through a monochromatic color palette: grays, light browns, creams, whites and lots of black. These sober colors contrast with an accent of a bright grass green print.
Tailoring, of course, makes up the bulk of the winter collection. But this time it comes with a slight formal variation: a dry cut breaks the garments open. This manipulation of the garment comes to life in different ways, depending on the wearer.
Marie-Christine Statz extracts the motif from an untitled work that Camille Henrot painted in 2022 to make the unique patterned prints we see in the proposal. This stimulating dialogue between the designer and Henrot gives life to a series of black and white looks.
Washed gray denim jackets and jeans are combined with asymmetrical knitwear, pleated or skin-tight with vintage 90s threads. Shiny lacquered cotton, patent linen and sequins are showcased in off-the-shoulder dresses, high-waisted pants and tops.
Thankfully, Marie-Christine continues to focus on the practicality of fashion and the true existence of fashion. Her clean-cut silhouettes and practical designs aim for permanence and timelessness.
