Between offices and workshops, young people are no longer so sure.
For years, office work was seen as the ultimate symbol of professional success: a permanent contract, a laptop, meetings and opportunities for advancement within a company. However, that idea is beginning to change. According to a recent LinkedIn study, Generation Z is showing a growing interest in technical and manual trades, viewing them not only as a valid alternative, but also as a more stable and sustainable option for the future.
The appeal of the tangible
Many young people in Generation Z are beginning to see manual labour as a way to a better life. Technical trades, workshops or specialised jobs offer something that is increasingly valued: good pay, stability and time to enjoy life outside work. Because, at the end of the day, not everyone dreams of spending their days in front of a computer replying to emails.
In an age where everything moves fast and people are glued to their mobiles, many young people are beginning to value more real and practical jobs, where they can see the results of what they do with their own hands. Furthermore, according to specialist media and various reports on employment and vocational training, there is an increasing shortage of skilled workers in technical and manual trades in Spain, a factor that is helping these jobs regain prestige and be seen once again as a promising career path.
Artificial intelligence is changing the rules
The advent of artificial intelligence is causing many young people to rethink their career prospects. Whilst an increasing number of office tasks can be automated, technical and craft-based trades seem harder to replace with machines. As a result, many are beginning to view these jobs as a safer option with better prospects.
At the same time, Generation Z no longer measures success solely by working in an office or holding a job that involves a suit and a computer. Many young people prioritise a better quality of life, stability and doing something useful and tangible. In this new landscape, manual labour is no longer seen as a second-best option and is regaining prestige thanks to the creativity, experience and human value it requires.
