Gerrit Jacob is one of those people obsessed with class, social class. That obsession with talking about people and the turmoil of society is reflected in his work for yet another season.
His Spring/Summer 24 collection entitled “The Traitor” focuses on the perpetual loop of enigma and turmoil, exaggerating the sentimentality of the youthful optimism of their previous collections, but at the same time taking the brand to a new stage in their maturing process.
The existentialism and teenage nihilism of Gregg Araki’s film Doom Generation are the inspirational basis for this collection. Jacob questions through it immemorial themes such as loyalty, identity, power and corruption. The insistent idea that it is possible to transcend social classes is a twisted lie of fate that Gerrit Jacob continues to tackle with his bold aesthetic and cheeky prints in the form of glittering stars, torn lips or palm trees.
Drawing inspiration from what he calls the “universal language of the working class,” which is sportswear, his iconoclastic airbrushed motifs are applied to new fabrics – jeans, jersey and white leather – and unmistakable brand silhouettes.
The designer, endorsed by the likes of Rosalía and Dua Lipa, brings out his signature silhouettes for yet another season. One that realizes a basic principle of subversion, making traditional luxury craftsmanship take on bolder dimensions.
