GmbH(@gmbh_official) is detached from the frills, focusing on the purity of the body silhouette. Now, Benjamin A. Huseby y Serhat Isik leave the very meaning of their proposal in the hands of the cut and the body.
“What if we allow ourselves the illusion of being designers who don’t have to talk about their identity, or their traumas as part of a collection, just like white designers can?” they wonder. The answer is a collection that explores the freedom of pure aesthetic and speaks for itself. Let’s say, then, that GmbH has found a new way to express itself.
And so it has. The pieces are presented through a live performance in full 3537. With visceral live music by LABOUR, two dancers from CITY BALLET CORP shed any remnants of the past as they unveil the truest elements of GmbH: its brand codes. In the movement lies the beauty of a knotted bow, the buttoning of a blazer, or a dress that exposes the collarbone.
Suits in wool or satin appear with stoles, which creep regally on the floor. The dresses are cinched to the body with utilitarian zippers or faux fur. The crisscross motif was originally inspired by our emblem, the hammer and pickaxe, the universal symbol of mining. Bows of all sizes decorate tailored coats, but also become off-shoulder tops ready for an evening out.
For accessories, the brand has created the first tote bag, evoking the cross-body straps of GmbH tailoring. Over-the-knee boots in emerald green synthetic crocodile and black patent leather feature chrome buckles with the brand’s new Kufic monogram, which also appears on the earrings. A new collaboration with ASICS comes in combinations of green and gold or black and white.
Wearing the garments, carrying a bag, walking, posture…so the fashion and the body are allowed to speak for themselves. No speeches in between, just the body and the couture establishing a dialogue.
