Harris Dickinson, Paul Mescal, Joseph Quinn and Barry Keoghan play The Beatles in new Sam Mendes saga

British filmmaker Sam Mendes is poised to redefine the way music history is approached with a highly anticipated biopic about the legendary Liverpool band, The Beatles. And after months of speculation, the cast has finally been revealed for this ambitious production, which promises not only to pay tribute to the most influential band in history, but also to offer a deeply intimate and personal look at its members.

Officially announced during CinemaCon 2025 in Las Vegas, this film project will be a series of four films, each focusing on the life and career of each member of The Beatles, exploring in detail the human, artistic, and emotional complexities of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. Mendes aims to take us on an immersive journey into the hearts and minds of the four icons, unraveling their passions, dilemmas, and the extraordinary creative energy that united them and catapulted them to global stardom.

The cast is led by Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, who will take on the challenge of portraying the most rebellious and philosophical of the Fab Four. Paul Mescal, known for his recent rise in Hollywood, will play Paul McCartney, the melodic genius behind some of the band’s most iconic songs. In the role of George Harrison, the always charismatic Joseph Quinn will portray the virtuoso guitarist, whose spiritual quest and unique style defined an era. Finally, Irish actor Barry Keoghan will take on the role of Ringo Starr, the drummer who was a key part of the band’s sound.

During his appearance at CinemaCon, Mendes couldn’t help but express his enthusiasm for the project: “We’re not just making one film about the Beatles, we’re creating four. Each of these films will be a deep dive into the life of one of the members, exploring not only their personal successes and struggles, but also the cultural impact they had on music and the entire world. Perhaps this is an opportunity to understand them in a deeper, more human, and more realistic way.”

The film’s four-part structure reflects Mendes’ need to capture the essence of each member without reducing them to mere symbols of an era, but rather as complex individuals who, through their music, forever changed the history of popular culture. The British director, known for his ability to explore human emotions in his works (as demonstrated in American Beauty and 1917), promises a cinematic narrative that will not only do justice to the magnitude of the Beatles but also offer a closer, more personal view than has traditionally been presented.

The production will be accompanied by a close collaboration between Mendes, Pippa Harris, and Julie Pastor, who will serve as executive producers. The release date is scheduled for April 2028, and each of the four films is expected to be released in stages, allowing audiences to follow the saga’s growth over the course of several months. Over time, this series could become one of the most influential film productions of the decade, not only for its ambition, but for the love and respect with which it is being created.

The British actor’s perspective on fashion and life becomes the center of this story, captured by the iconic Steven Meisel.
