Hesperia Barri Gòtic: the rebirth of a classic as an icon of modernity

The renovated Hesperia reopens its doors, revitalised to capture the essence and charm of Barcelona’s historic Barri Gòtic.

Hesperia Barri Gòtic: the rebirth of a classic as an icon of modernity

Housed in a historic 19th-century building at number 31 on the legendary Carrer Ample, Hesperia Barri Gòtic presents itself as a haven that pays homage to the vibrant and enigmatic essence of the neighbourhood. With a discreet entrance, you are greeted by an unexpected space that reveals a luminous central courtyard, an almost secret corner that invites calm, in contrast to the hustle and bustle of the city. This corner of Barcelona lives among hidden courtyards, narrow streets full of light and life, street art, old-fashioned shops, and a legacy that can be breathed at every corner.

The hotel is a secret refuge, a rediscovery of an ancient gothic palace, an architectural jewel. Dark, warm corridors lead to the rooms, guided by occasional flashes of light. A large digital mural of geometric figures and Catalan modernist motifs, evoking the identity of the city in subtle, abstract tones, stands out among the nooks and crannies and spaces for rest and relaxation.

In the corridors and rooms, graphic works and decorative details reinterpret Barcelona icons, while a photographic series by Ely Sanchez captures the essence of Barcelona from the ground, a tribute to its mosaics and cobblestones. The entire design and interior design has been developed by The Null studio, with Enrique Tellechea at the helm ‘the hotel is a little treasure, almost a hideaway: a rediscovery of a typical palace of the neighbourhood, with a discreet entrance leading to a luminous central courtyard, full of dark corridors with punctual points of light that mark the way to the rooms’.

Among these nods to Barcelona’s culture and the neighbourhood itself, we find wallpaper inspired by the iconic Panot de Rosa, the unmistakable symbol of Barcelona’s tiles. The 71 rooms have been redesigned to reflect the cosmopolitan character of the city and the bohemian soul of the Barri Gòtic, with grey tones and textures that evoke stone, paying tribute to the materials of the area’s historic buildings. Among the new features is The Circle, a cocktail bar inspired by the style of the mid-20th century that promises to become a benchmark in Barcelona’s nightlife, offering signature cocktails and a carefully selected gastronomic offer.

The Hesperia Barri Gòtic’s location is perfect for those who wish to immerse themselves in the most authentic Barcelona and discover emblematic sites and points of interest within walking distance, such as the Santa Ana Monastery and the Picasso Museum, as well as the innovative MOCO Museum. With its evocative design, vibrant The Circle proposal and its integration in the heart of the Barri Gòtic, Hesperia Barri Gòtic invites you to discover a haven in the soul of Barcelona, where the old and the new converge.
