How to combat skin dehydration in summer

The summer season can cause damage to the skin, mainly dehydration problems. The skin’s natural ability to maintain optimal hydration is altered by multiple internal and external factors, such as too much sun, leading to skin dehydration and its consequences: redness, tightness, itchiness and flaking. There are several effective strategies to improve skin hydration and alleviate its symptoms. We share some tips to keep your skin well maintained from Valquer Laboratorios:

  1. Internal Hydration

Drink enough water: Make sure you consume at least 8 glasses of water a day. Internal hydration is essential to maintain healthy skin.

Water-rich foods: Incorporate foods such as cucumber, watermelon, oranges and strawberries into your diet, as they are rich in water and help maintain hydration.

  1. Sun Protection

Apply sunscreen with a high SPF every day, even on cloudy days. Sunscreens with moisturising ingredients can do double duty.

Avoid prolonged sun exposure: Whenever possible, avoid sun exposure during peak hours (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.).

  1. Skin Care Routine

Avoid hot showers: Long, hot showers can strip your skin of its natural moisture. Opt for lukewarm, shorter showers.

Proper clothing: Wear cotton clothing and avoid synthetic materials that can irritate the skin.

If dehydration is severe or persistent, consult a dermatologist. He or she may be able to recommend specific treatments or products that are best suited to your needs.
