The American Museum of Natural History will host some of the most iconic pieces of jewellery in the history of hip-hop.
From JAY-Z‘s Roc-A-Fella diamond locket to Nicki Minaj‘s ‘Barbie’ chain, to Slick Rick‘s gem-encrusted crown, plus some of the treasures from the personal collections of A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ferg, Tyler The Creator, Erykah Badu and Joey Bada$$. All this and much more is what you can discover first-hand if you visit (or find yourself) in the great city that never sleeps from 9 May.
“Taking advantage of New York’s celebration of hip-hop’s 50th anniversary as a global phenomenon, Ice Cold will highlight the evolution of jewellery in the genre over the past five decades, starting with the massive gold chains adopted by rap pioneers in the 1980s and moving through the 1990s, when artists-turned-moguls sported shiny diamond and platinum record label pendants” previews the official poster for the exhibition to be held in the American Museum of Natural History‘s Melissa & Keith Meister temporary exhibition gallery.
And speaking of this cultural movement… This is how it has shaped the canons of beauty during its 50-year history.
