El diseñador Duran Lantink(@duranlantinkyo), who made his first fashion show during this Paris Fashion Week, did what he does best: upcycling. The Dutchman used recycled items from various brands, including Hema’s basic T-shirts.
The designer strives not to use anything new in his collections. In this way, he takes his own materials not used before and also those of other brands to make a proposal not only necessary in these times but really surprising at a stylistic level.
In this new release, a golden dress from her first collection is reborn as a corset, and several pants are part of pleated dresses. Everyday items such as a backpack or a car floor mat become tops. Even the yellow sheepskin of coats or boots was also dead stock from previous works.
But Lantink’s experimentation lies not only in his ability to take upcycling to an unprecedented level. The designer has exaggerated volumes in the chest and hip area as a way of highlighting the hourglass figure. A mere play on volumes or a body positive statement?
In this such a masterful debut at Paris Fashion Week, Duran Lantink demonstrates why upcycling should not only be a value proposition but a contemporary necessity in the industry.
