JFK Strengthens Its Art Focus in Terminal 6

The Terminal 6 at JFK is being renovated with a budget of $4.2 billion. Of that, $22 million will be allocated to a public art programme. This will transform the arrivals corridor with installations from leading cultural institutions.

MoMA will present a collaboration with Yoko Ono, expanding her Peace is Power (2019) installation. Lincoln Center is preparing a 140-foot mural that encompasses music, theatre, dance and opera. The Met will showcase pieces from its 17 collections, spanning 5,000 years of art.

The project, funded by JFK Millennium Partners, also includes 19 permanent works commissioned by Public Art Fund. There will also be rotating exhibitions organised by Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning. In total, 18 local and international artists are involved, including Barbara Kruger, Charles Gaines, Eddie Martinez, Laure Prouvost and Haegue Yang.

“Thanks to the collaboration with four of New York’s leading cultural institutions, Terminal 6 will offer visitors a unique experience even before leaving the airport,” said Rick Cotton, Executive Director of the Port Authority.
