John Heaven is a multiple artist, one of those unpredictable creators who always go beyond. In this case, Joan Serinyà, producer, DJ and performer based in Barcelona, presents us with “Carretera Perdida”, a new EP with which he invites us to delve into his minimalist universe. It is a second part of the album “Nouminimal” (which he released a few weeks ago through the Munich label Public Possession) and contains 4 tracks impregnated with an irrational and raw character of the dj and performer, member of the Mainline collective and the house band Mainline Magic Orchestra.
The album perfectly defines the minimalist universe of the Barcelona producer. “Schwindel” (“Dizzy” in German) is an instrumental minimal house track made up of classic drum machine patterns and a beep that modulates and drives the tension of the track.
“Carretera Perdida”, the second track on the EP, is a Heaven-style mantra, a track that can perfectly evoke Daniel Bell’s early productions in the late 90’s in Detroit on labels like Peacefrog or Accelerate. “Everybody Knows” draws on the words of one of Leonard Cohen’s best-known songs, with the same title as the track. The album closes with “Grup Bombolla”, an extremely minimalist instrumental track, full of bleeps or little beeps that take turns, generating an accented and singular atmosphere.
The EP will be accompanied by a music video for “Carretera Perdida” filmed in the Pyrenees and directed, recorded and edited by Gio Peiro and styled by Tes Rosmeri, which will be released next Monday. With this work John Heaven opens his artistic year, showing some of his most personal pieces and consolidating even more his stark minimalist house style.
