On Monday night, the Royal Albert Hall was lit up with the glamour of the 2024 Fashion Awards, marking a milestone for the British fashion industry. With a dazzling red disco ball rolled out by the British Fashion Council (BFC), the evening celebrated the best in design, emerging talent and collaborations that have redefined the creative landscape.

Jonathan Anderson was the night’s big winner, taking home the coveted Designer of the Year Award in a category that included big names such as Miuccia Prada and Rick Owens. The JW Anderson and Loewe designer celebrated his win with an emotional speech. ‘Fashion gets me out of bed every day,’ he said, dedicating his victory to the legacy of Tom Ford, whose presence was palpable in the room.

A$AP Rocky took home the Cultural Innovator Award 2024, highlighting his impactful foray into fashion with his participation in the Moncler show in Shanghai and his influences on the design of ‘The City of Genius’. Caroline Rush, CEO of the BFC, praised his ability to fuse culture, innovation and music, while actively supporting British designers.

In a historic twist, Alex Consani became the first trans woman to win the prestigious Model of the Year, an achievement she celebrated with a powerful message of inclusion and thanks to black trans women who led the way in the industry.

The New Establishment Menswear award went to Priya Ahluwalia for Ahluwalia, who beat out rising stars Aaron Esh and Stefan Cooke. Marco Capaldo took the award in the New Establishment Womenswear category for 16Arlington, capping off a successful year for the brand.

The Best British Womenswear Designer Award went to Simone Rocha, while Grace Wales Bonner won the British Menswear Designer Award. Both continue to cement their place among the biggest names in international fashion.

The Special Awards went to some of the industry’s most influential names. Tyler Mitchell, the photographer who redefined Beyoncé’s portrait in Vogue, received the Isabella Blow Fashion Creator Award, while Remo Ruffini, CEO of Moncler, was presented with the Trailblazer Award for his creative vision and ability to collaborate with the most disruptive names in contemporary fashion.

Gucci also shone with a Special Recognition Award for its Cruise 2025 campaign. Sophia Neophitou-Apostolou, editor of 10 Magazine, and Margaret Barbour, president of J Barbour & Sons, were among the other major figures honoured for their legacy in fashion. The evening culminated with a special mention for the Pandora Leader of Change Award, presented to the multi-faceted Issa Rae, who was introduced by her Insecure co-star Yvonne Orji.
