Julia Roberts stars in Luca Guadagnino’s After the Hunt

Amazon MGM Studios has revealed the official trailer for After the Hunt, the new project from Luca Guadagnino, known for Challengers and Call Me By Your Name. The feature film stars Julia Roberts, Ayo Edebiri and Andrew Garfield. The film is set in a university environment marked by social divisions, secrets from the past and accusations that put power relations in crisis.

Roberts plays Alma Olsson, a professor who is caught in the middle of a conflict between her top student, Maggie Price (Edebiri), and her colleague and close friend Hank Gibson (Garfield). Maggie’s accusation against Hank and the teacher’s subsequent defence that it is all retaliation for a case of plagiarism set off a series of tensions that put Alma in an increasingly untenable position.

‘Not everything is supposed to make you comfortable’. This is the message that guides the tone of the trailer. The film is committed to tackling uncomfortable issues such as consent, institutional hierarchy and generational divisions, without offering easy answers or conciliatory narrative structures.

Guadagnino returns with regular collaborators Michael Stuhlbarg and Chloë Sevigny. The music by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross reinforces the psychological character of the film, adding tension to an already charged atmosphere. The screenplay, by Nora Garrett, focuses on the complexity of professional and personal bonds in an academic environment.

After the Hunt will have a limited release in New York and Los Angeles on 10 October 2025. Domestic distribution is scheduled for 17 October.
