Julian Klausner is the new creative director of Dries Van Noten

On Monday morning, Dries Van Noten took a crucial step in the evolution of its brand by announcing, via Instagram, that Julian Klausner would be the house’s new creative director. This appointment, which follows Van Noten’s departure in June 2024, marks the beginning of a new era for the Belgian brand, with Klausner taking the reins after several years of collaboration with the founder.

In his official statement, Klausner said: ‘I am beyond excited to lead the coming seasons as we begin this new chapter for the house. The unparalleled legacy that Dries leaves behind is monumental, a never-ending source of inspiration. I am ready to take on ambitious new challenges while paying tribute to the heritage we all cherish. These words reflect his commitment to the brand’s legacy, while underlining his focus on the future.

Klausner, who has been an essential part of the Van Noten team for the past six years, co-designed the women’s collection with Dries himself. Trained at the prestigious Belgian academy La Cambre, Klausner has come an impressive way since graduating in 2016. With internships at big names such as Thom Browne, Kenzo and Maison Margiela, he joined Dries Van Noten as a junior designer that same year. His first collection as creative director will be presented on 5 March at Paris Fashion Week, marking the official start of his era at the helm of the label. In addition, Klausner will unveil a men’s collection lookbook for FW25, expanding his vision for the brand.

Klausner’s promotion is a significant change at a time when many luxury houses seem caught in a game of ‘musical chairs’ with their creative directors, constantly swapping them between major labels. In contrast, Dries Van Noten has opted to go for in-house talent, demonstrating its confidence in the creative continuity and vision of the new generation.

With this move, Klausner has the opportunity to redefine the future of the brand, maintaining its essence while facing new challenges. We will be looking forward to the collections he will present in the coming months and the changes that this transition of power will bring to one of the most iconic names in Belgian fashion.
