JW Anderson surprises again with an eclectic fashion show

JW Anderson’s latest show is a journey back in time, a celebration of British culture and an inspiration from the world of Michael Clark.

A journey into the past, a celebration of British culture and an inspiration from the world of Michael Clark. That’s how we could sum up, briefly, the latest JW Anderson show held at The Roundhouse in London.

On a circular catwalk full of vibrant colours, Jonathan Anderson unveiled his daring designs full of deep reminiscences. Crinkled leather T-shirts with back zips, leather trousers in neon hues, asymmetrical ensembles with geometric shapes, jumpers with rounded collars and sleeves and T-shirts with fun graphics were some of the key pieces that stood out.

The faux fur tops with bare shoulders and front pockets did not go unnoticed, as well as the knotted mini skirts, the pompous details on dresses and bodysuits or the jumpers with phallic motifs to which the designer has accustomed us.

“At its heart, this is a collection about fandom, a curious thing as it is completely personal, often irrational and embarrassing. As I went through my own archive for this exhibition, resurrecting elements from each collection over the last fifteen years, Michael let me dig into his. He helped me identify my own obsessions,” says Jonathan Anderson himself. “Looking back is not something I do very often, but from time to time I find it necessary to move forward. The past can be a lens to focus on the future,” he adds.
