The singer who changed the course of hip hop in the 2000s and shaped an entire generation received an honorary master’s degree in fashion from the Marangoni Institute in Miami. The artist celebrated in an Instagram post with a picture of himself in a custom-made cap and gown and his mother. “Today was a very special day. Words cannot express how I feel at this moment. I am happy, I feel complete, fulfilled, validated, all things that bring me immense joy. That my mother shared this moment with me was everything. She was moved and it was a very special memory that we will have together forever. I have never set foot on a stage before”.
The artist continued: “I got my GED in high school and only did one year of college. My mother finally got to see me achieve what I thought I would never achieve. And it was beautiful. 🥹 Thank you to @istitutomarangoni_miami, all the staff and faculty and ESPECIALLY the STUDENTS (THE FUTURE!!!) for welcoming me and my family and friends with open arms and blessing me with this prestigious honor. Cudi’s title comes after two seasons of launching his own label, Members of the Rage. Recently, he also announced that he is creating another brand with NIGO called WZRD CWBY. On the school’s own Instagram, Cudi was congratulated stating, “This honorary degree from Istituto Marangoni Miami recognises Scott’s (@kidcudi) achievements and vision in shaping the modern fashion and luxury scene with Members of the Rage (@membersoftherage). Recognising what an inspiration he is to young creatives. It is an honour for us to present this to the fashion world worldwide and also a statement in the continued pursuit of education in fashion and design, it is the future and present of creativity.” The school promises to donate profits from the pop-up to its scholarship fund.
