Kim Kardashian robbery suspect in Paris dies

Just weeks before the trial for the incident is due to begin.The most media-friendly heist of recent years – the one Kim K suffered in the French capital in October 2016 – continues to shock almost nine years on. And, in a final twist worthy of a crime novel, one of the main suspects, Marceau Baum-Gertner, has unexpectedly passed away just as the trial is about to get underway.

He is a well-known figure in the city of Paris, and was one of a group of 10 people who will face justice today.

Although the details and cause of his death are still unknown, the circumstances are bizarre, almost film-like. Gertner, who had been released on bail after his initial arrest, was one of the key players in the robbery, accused of being the intermediary between the thieves and the buyers of the stolen jewellery. His name was linked to international criminal gangs.

For those who don’t remember the details of the robbery, on 3 October 2016, while Kim Kardashian was resting in her room at the Hotel de Pourtalès, a group of armed men burst into her suite, tied her up and gagged her. The loot: $10 million worth of jewellery, including a $4 million diamond ring.
