After announcing the collaboration a few months ago, the Jimmy Choo x Jean Paul Gaultier footwear collection is here. Y… And surprise! Pop superstar Kylie Minogue stars in the campaign.
Blending the two identities and born from a shared vision of femininity, empowerment and confidence, the collection, co-designed by Sandra Choi, creative director of Jimmy Choo, and Florence Tétier, creative director of JPG, draws on the heritage of the French Maison and the luxury accessories brand. A creative conversation between two houses whose legacies encompass multifaceted cultural mixes, a love of craftsmanship and an idiosyncratic ideology of glamorous rebellion.
Choi and Tétier found a shared affinity in the confidence they gain from wearing a Jimmy Choo heel or a Jean Paul Gaultier print. Choi equates the liberated ’90s clubbing feel of Gaultier concealing tattooed but revealing prints (inspired for Spring/Summer 1994 by a UK tattoo convention), with that of “wearing high heels”. “It’s a big deal when a London brand and a Parisian brand come together!”.
JPG’s classic trompe-l’oeil and tattoo prints are transposed in stiletto and high boot form. Their corsets serve as inspiration for two lace-up mules and the Anglo-French nature of the collaboration is evident in two models where the Eiffel Tower and Big Ben are embedded in the heels; the collection includes two chain-laden mules and two boots. One knee-high 85% calfskin and the other imitating the bottom of a pair of jeans.
