LED face mask: haven’t you tried it yet?

They are not the future but rather the present of facial care at home, as well as one of the most popular gadgets today.

LED face mask: haven’t you tried it yet?

Talking about LED facial masks has long since ceased to be a novelty reserved only for dermatological centres to become another option for facial treatment at home. Just as it happened with facial cleansing brushes or pulsed light epilators, it is becoming more and more common for cosmetics and skincare lovers to use this technology to care for their skin.

It is curious that the first studies of this technology were developed with NASA in the 1960s with the aim of enhancing the growth of plants in space. In this process they observed the impact of this light on the body’s tissues, especially in healing and repairing skin damage effectively. The process resembles photosynthesis.

The LED light is applied through a mask directly to the skin. The rays emitted by the mask are like the sun’s rays but without the ultraviolet rays. Among its most outstanding benefits are: skin regeneration, minimising expression lines, improving flaccidity, combating acne and scars, correcting sun damage, providing extra hydration, unifying tone and stimulating collagen.

How many types of light and treatments are there?

The type of treatment and its effect will depend on the colour of the light used, which is directly related to each wavelength range. Treatments include: anti-ageing, anti-acne, boosters (also called boost), and cleansers. The most common colours are red, blue and green LED light, although increasingly these masks include more options:

  • Red light: one of the most popular because of its deep penetrating power that has an impact on collagen production, i.e. it helps to fade small wrinkles and fine lines.
  • Blue light: it is antibacterial, which means it is beneficial for acne (or anti-acne), especially as it also reduces inflammation and accelerates healing. Blue LED light also has a purifying effect.
  • Green light: the best against blemishes because of its effect on melanin-producing cells. The green LED effect is particularly effective against hyperpigmentation of all kinds, whether caused by age or sun.
  • White light: combines all the colours and, therefore, their benefits. Its glow and illuminating effect stands out.
  • Orange light: recommended for treating dull skin and lack of luminosity.
  • Yellow light: to be used by skin with rosacea due to its ability to reduce its main symptoms. It is also recommended in case of sunburn.
  • Cyan light: has an anti-inflammatory effect, so it is indicated to reduce acne and conditions such as redness or inflammation.
  • Purple light: known for its regenerative power, in other words, the most effective with scars and small acne marks.
