One of the most impactful announcements at CES 2025 was the unveiling of the Legion Go S, Lenovo’s new handheld console that comes with a unique proposition: it is the first to incorporate SteamOS without being developed by Valve. With this launch, the Chinese brand marks a milestone by being the first non-Valve company to integrate the operating system designed to optimise the gaming experience on portable devices.
The Legion Go S not only joins the competition with the popular Steam Deck, but also opens new doors for gamers. Thanks to SteamOS, users will be able to store their games and data in the cloud, allowing seamless integration between PC and handheld, with the advantage of being able to instantly access Steam’s vast library and enjoy games in full sync across platforms.
This move by Lenovo is no coincidence. It points to a change in Valve’s strategy, which seems to be willing to license SteamOS to other manufacturers. Thus, rather than limiting its system to a single console, Valve is sowing the seeds for an expansion that could redefine the handheld landscape in the near future.
