The Bologna-born designer has gained high visibility in the competitive fashion world after being awarded the prestigious Karl Lagerfeld Special Jury Prize at the LVMH Young Fashion Designer Award. The recognition opened the door to greater attention in the Milan fashion scene, consolidating his position in the industry.
While specific details of Magliano’s runway show in Florence are not yet known, the Pitti Uomo organizing team has revealed that the designer plans to present a “special runway show” at a yet-to-be-revealed location. This announcement marks a full-circle moment in Luca Magliano’s career, as he made his runway debut during Pitti Uomo in 2018 with his “Wardrobe for a Man in Love” collection.
Magliano has expressed his enthusiasm about this opportunity: “Pitti is where our project was first revealed five years ago, with that huge mountain of red roses that, thinking about it now, gives me a great sense of vertigo and tenderness: like looking in the mirror after some time and finding the important things again, even if everything has happened in the meantime. This return home, to the people you love and respect, fills me with joy. It is the ideal occasion to imagine ourselves in the future, more Magliano than ever.”
Luca Magliano’s career in fashion began when he graduated from the Libera Università delle Arti in Bologna. He then worked under Alessandro Dell’Acqua in Milan before returning to Bologna in 2013 to collaborate on the fashion label Ter et Bantine, directed by Manuela Arcari. In 2015, Magliano ventured into her own womenswear line called “I Was Naked”, before creating her eponymous label in 2017, with the collaboration of Arcari.
Lapo Cianchi, Pitti Immagine’s director of communications and events, commented on the choice of Magliano as guest designer: “There are at least three good reasons why, in agreement with the Camera della Moda, we have asked Magliano to show as guest designer at the next edition of Pitti Uomo. The first is that Luca has an exceptional ability to design in an original way the cultural and social canons usually associated with Italian fashion. Central to this is his penchant for true teamwork.”
Cianchi continued, “The second is that we think it is interesting, when possible, to take a periodic look at the careers and stylistic evolution of designers who made their public debut at Pitti Uomo (Magliano was the winner of Who’s On Next 2017 and was the Pitti Italics in 2018, ed. note) and then gained international renown. The third is that we like him: his generosity, his enthusiasm and his polite simplicity: a true Emilian.”
So, during those four days in January, we fashion lovers will be able to witness the return of Luca Magliano to Pitti Immagine Uomo, where he will surely surprise us with his creativity and vision.
