Marc Jacobs continues to deliver. His 40th anniversary celebrations have been a masterclass in how to join forces with today’s most influential creatives like NIGO, Cactus Plant Flea Market, Stephen Sprouse and Anna Sui. And this is just the beginning: Pharrell, Tremaine Emory, Sofia Coppola and Takashi Murakami are all on the waiting list for upcoming collections. Today, Jacobs shakes up the scene again with a new capsule alongside graffiti visionary Futura.
It’s not the first time these two have crossed paths: their first collaboration was in 2022, on an activation for Free Arts NYC, an organization that supports young people from marginalized communities. This time, the duo goes even further, fusing Futura’s street aesthetic with Jacobs’ most iconic silhouettes in a capsule that includes The Tote Bag, The Snapshot, unisex denim, sweatshirts, sweaters, T-shirts and jewelry. All, of course, embellished with the street art that has made Futura a legend.
To bring this collection to life, Marc Jacobs has assembled a cast that exudes cool: J Balvin, Paloma Elsesser and Futura himself star in the visual campaign, shot by Renell Medrano and styled by Milton Dixon III. The result: a series of images where the stars pose surrounded by Futura’s sculptures and graffiti, with “Marc Jacobs” in every corner, reimagined through his lens.
The Futura x Marc Jacobs collection will be released on September 6, marking Jacobs’ eighth collaboration in a year full of creative partnerships to commemorate his 40th anniversary. As if that weren’t enough, the brand will be deploying pop-ups in New York, London, Beijing and Japan, and in addition, the Bronx Museum will open FUTURA 2000: BREAKING OUT on September 8, the largest exhibition dedicated to the artist’s work.
