Matthieu Blazy revisits the codes of childhood for Bottega Veneta SS25

Matthieu Blazy, Bottega Veneta‘s creative director, has proven himself to be a master craftsman with a distinctive vision. He has reimagined the house’s iconic woven leather goods, infusing them with a childlike spirit and infectious joy that shone through in the SS25 collection presented at Milan Fashion Week. ‘As a child, life was full of everyday adventures. Anything could happen and we weren’t limited by expectations,’ Blazy shared. ‘It’s about opening the door to strange realities and wonders, where sincerity trumps strategy.’

And how does this ‘sincerity’ translate on the catwalk? In Bottega Veneta’s universe, it is reinvented with garments featuring disproportionate details such as exaggerated leather collars and dropped shoulder seams. The presentation took place in Orobia 11, a space decorated with leather poufs inspired by the iconic ‘Sacco’ chair, forming a collection of animals including elephants, whales and rabbits. Each guest received a hand-selected chair to match their personality.

For SS25, Bottega Veneta celebrates ‘clumsy chic’, fusing sophisticated details with a playful approach. The brand fused luxury craftsmanship with childlike nostalgia, featuring animal motifs and a style reminiscent of children dressing up in their parents’ clothes. Attendees included Jacob Elordi, Julianne Moore, A$AP Rocky, Kendall Jenner, Michelle Yeoh and James Blake and more. The show began with James Blake’s music and the party continued with his live performance.

The collection overflowed with creativity with animal motifs: from frog-shaped heels to bunny belts and a leather trench coat with fish lapels. The frog symbolises transformation and is reflected in brooches and necklaces, while the bunny, played by Elordi in a recent campaign, appears on mules and T-shirts. Blazy brought a contemporary touch to accessories, with grocery bags and leather flowers, inspired by the everyday adventures of teenagers. Childhood dreams also came to life with a leather bag in the shape of a pink toy house.

Bottega Veneta delves into the vastness of the desert landscapes of Utah and Nevada to present its winter 2024 campaign.
