May 2024: the emerging brands of the month | Made in Colombia feature

This month the Bogota Fashion Week was held, and we had the opportunity to attend and learn about the talent in design and craftsmanship that Colombian designers possess. That’s why we wanted to dedicate this “6 emerging brands of the month” to Colombia, with the emerging designers that are making it big on the other side of the Atlantic. Come and meet them!

1. Cubel

The brand created by Humberto Cubides is a tribute to the Colombian artisan tradition fused with urban and avant-garde aesthetics. In 2015 CUBEL was born, as an amalgam of his two surnames. That same amalgam is found in his universe, where originally Colombian prints are combined with creative processes typical of contemporary design, such as stamping, worn leather etc. Still inspired by Colombian craftsmanship, and with certain similarities at times with Japanese and Korean design, her garments represent new identities far from the traditional.

2. La Petite Mort

“La petite mort” (French for ‘little death’) is a euphemism used to describe the sensation of post-orgasm, the brief moment of weakness or loss of consciousness experienced after sexual climax. Under this maxim, the Colombian brand with the same name was founded in 2015. This arises with the firm intention of creating garments that are orgasms made clothing, becoming a personal statement of those who wear them. With 100% national production, it exalts the talent of Colombian tailors, seamstresses and weavers. Its strong point is to make disruptive tailoring with which to perceive the richness of Colombian craftsmanship in a different way.

3. Marargent

At Marargent they define luxury as excellence in each handmade piece, with a simple, naturalistic aesthetic and impeccable details. All their bags are in leather, using high quality materials such as bovine leather, calfskin suede and 24k gold plated hardware. Made to last a lifetime and looking for inspiration in vintage accessories and the work of great artists such as Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Pierre Paulin and Constantin Brâncuși, Marargent bags already have the approval of celebrities like Elsa Hosk or Bella Hadid.

4. Anthias

The brand, inspired by the Colombian tropics and designed by Marco Muñoz, has everything anyone could want in the world of beachwear. Its one- and two-piece swimwear works for both the beach and an elegant dinner, and its dresses, pants and shirts put the tropics in the spotlight. With pure cuts and prints that mainly highlight the palm trees of the Colombian Caribbean, the collection transcends beachwear, becoming a closet essential for the summer season.

5. Papel de Punto

Papel de Punto is a conceptual brand specialized in knitwear, combining fashion and the artistic vision of Laura Acevedo. Made entirely in Colombia, her garments invite you to embellish life with unique pieces that capture creativity on a knitted canvas. Her garments, which are hand-finished, are limited editions that fit both men and women. On occasion, artisans from Chocó, Guajira and Nariño, co-create with the team to create unique and special inserts for their knitwear. Committed to social and environmental responsibility, they use recycled cotton and fiber blends. Papel de Punto ultimately makes handcrafted collaborations that are meant to last a lifetime.

6. Mayorga

At Mayorga, they create versatile garments that are pure visual “gozadera”: from flowing dresses to two-piece ensembles that fuse style and comfort with a touch of tropical charm. Each design choice is a meticulous adventure, from the selection of lightweight fabrics to the creation of prints that whisper stories of Caribbean culture and mysticism. In a world of fleeting trends, Mayorga makes garments that don’t follow fads, creating their own rhythm, inspiring you to immerse yourself in the “Mayorgueo” and embrace the passion, freshness and authenticity of Caribbean life.
