With the rush of the modern day or the whim of personal whims, Meryll Rogge’s SS24 collection stands as a testament to our intricate relationship with time.

Meryll Rogge SS24: it’s all a matter of time

Meryll Rogge reflects on our fraught relationship with time in her new Spring/Summer 2024 collection.

In a proposal where the speed of life intertwines with the yearning to remain motionless, Rogge captures the essence of the days of inactivity entangled in the frenetic maelstrom of human existence, rescuing glimpses of a bygone era where debauchery fed numerous fantasies.

Reminiscent of a closet conceived by a globetrotter who has lost his luggage, the proposal reflects different time zones and climatic scenarios, giving rise to a spontaneous style composed of incongruous and sophisticated silhouettes. Putting together garments, whether by conscious choice or by the simple delight of fashion, becomes the means to embark on a journey, whether in everyday realities or along long-distance itineraries.

The connection between past, present and future takes many forms, from late prints and cuts to the evocation of nostalgia through sportswear. Iconic pieces of British clothing, such as trench coats and blouses, coexist harmoniously with crinkled satin pencil skirts. Leather belts, tied loosely around the waist, give shape to oversized menswear, transforming them into distinctive and uniquely tailored pieces. Scarves that snake over necklines and busts, amalgamating with the garment itself.

A timeless closet rescued from a pile of lost and rediscovered pieces. Sturdy work clothes and floral prints are worn like newly loved heirlooms, with the aura of the handmade imprinted in every fiber. Double-faced wool, meticulously assembled into coats and jackets, tells stories of dedication and craftsmanship. The proportions of men’s poplin shirts, stripped down and solid, are constructed slightly outside traditional canons, offering an opportunity to revisit the ritual of office wear with subtle variations and conscious deconstructions.

In a back-and-forth between haste and a decision to slow down the pace of life, Meryll Rogge’s new clothes do not go unnoticed, and celebrate the everyday with the excitement of a new adventure. The swan-like silhouettes that glide across printed T-shirts and evening gowns are a reminder of our ability to float and pause, defying the relentless march of time. A slow show that invites reflection on the beauty that lies between haste and pause.
