Meta and Reality Labs are developing a smart wristband that turns hand movements into digital commands, removing the need for traditional mouse and keyboard. This is possible because the technology interprets the electrical signals the brain sends to the muscles to control devices.
The wristband uses surface electromyography to translate natural gestures such as pinching, sliding, or tapping in the air into actions like typing messages or opening applications.
The system developed by Meta and Reality Labs has been trained on data from 300 volunteers and remains in a testing phase to improve accuracy and detect very subtle movements.
