Umbro has partnered with MTV to relive the cultural revolution that was the rise of Acid House.
In the late 1980s, football fans began flocking to music venues, exchanging terrace culture for club culture. And to other areas of the music scene. MTV had a dramatic impact on music, film and television: looking cool on MTV became as important as sounding cool when it came to selling records.
At the same time, a new genderless apparel composed of football and sports-relevant silhouettes appeared on the fashion scene. The loose-fitting style became comfortable, with extremely wide fits that allowed for the fluid, loose-limbed movements of the dancers.
Key pieces in the collection include the Coach Jacket and Track Pants, with a digital print in shades of Shaded Spruce (green) and Brilliant White (white). There is also a set of stylish football shirts, with a distorted checkerboard print, flat knit collar with ribbed trim and embroidered double diamond and MTV logos on the chest.
The spring/summer 2023 collection inspired by club culture, Acid House and Baggy style, is completed with graphic print tees, waistcoats, swim shorts, a hoodie, as well as accessories such as bucket hats and baseball caps.
The Umbro MTV collection is now available on the brand’s website.
