Netflix releases “Wednesday” Season 2 trailer

Netflix has unveiled the first official trailer for the highly anticipated second season of Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega, and the message is clear: the series abandons romantic subplots to fully embrace psychological horror, family conflict and a haunting prophecy that sets the pulse of this new instalment.

The two-part season – Part 1 on 6 August and Part 2 on 3 September 2025 – promises to elevate the narrative into grimmer, more visceral territory, reaffirming the visual and narrative identity that made Wednesday a global phenomenon.

From the first seconds of the trailer, we are transported back into the gothic universe of Nevermore Academy. However, Wednesday’s return is not exactly triumphant: having become a public figure after the events of the first season, the young Addams must face the discomfort of unwanted fame. In an ironic tone, she mentions setting up bear traps to keep her more obsessive fans at bay.

The emotional lynchpin of this second season revolves around a disturbing psychic vision: Wednesday senses that her best friend and roommate, Enid Sinclair (played by Emma Myers), will die. More alarmingly, she believes her own fate is intertwined with this tragedy. What ensues, then, is not just a new mystery, but a race against time fraught with emotional tension.

This new instalment also marks a major shift behind the scenes: Jenna Ortega takes on the role of producer, a decision that is reflected in the more serious, sombre tone aligned with the psychological horror that she herself declared she wanted for the series.

In terms of the cast, the new series features the addition of such important figures as Steve Buscemi, who will play Nevermore’s new headmaster, and Joanna Lumley, in the role of the eccentric grandmother Hester Frump. These new characters bring density and charisma to a season that doesn’t skimp on supernatural visuals.

The family dimension also takes centre stage. Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Gomez Addams (Luis Guzman) will have more screen presence, generating friction that will test the already complex relationship between mother and daughter.

Netflix is once again adopting its two-part release strategy to keep the anticipation sustained. Moreover, by filming back-to-back with the third season, the series ensures continuity and narrative cohesion.

With a bolder, more visceral and uncompromising proposal, the second season of Wednesday reaffirms itself as one of the platform’s most solid bets: a fusion between black comedy, psychological horror and subversive aesthetics that consolidates the place of the series -and Jenna Ortega- as cultural references of the new contemporary gothic.

Netflix has decided to go ahead with a second season, keeping the buzz going.
