New York subway also celebrates hip-hop’s 50th anniversary

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is partnering with Universal Music Enterprises to design a series of limited edition MetroCards featuring the portraits of four iconic New York rappers.

The faces of LL Cool J, Rakim, Cam’ron and Pop Smoke adorn the new New York City subway cards to mark the 50th anniversary of the birth of hip-hop. All will allow travel throughout the metropolitan area and each can be picked up in the rappers’ respective boroughs: Queens-born LL Cool J‘s cards will be picked up at the Forest Hills-71st Avenue station and Brooklyn native Pop Smoke‘s cards will be picked up at the Canarsie-Rockaway Parkway and New Lots Avenue stations.

To be able to acquire the MetroCards of Rakim and Cam’ron, born in Long Island and East Harlem respectively, it will be necessary to wait until the end of this month, as they will be on sale at all ATMs in the Big Apple. A total of 80,000 unique subway tickets that will undoubtedly become collector’s items.
