In a world saturated with images and immediate perceptions, sometimes we need a space where the invisible becomes visible, where dreaming and waking merge. This is precisely what Nuria Figueiredo offers us with her new exhibition ‘El Desvelo’, which will open its doors at the Galería Échale Guindas (Pelayo 47, Madrid) on 15 January.
El Desvelo is not just an exhibition, it is a sensorial and emotional journey into a universe where the frontier between what we dream and what we live is diluted. Figueiredo invites us to immerse ourselves in dreamlike landscapes full of fantastic creatures, hidden symbols and a transformed nature. Here, the characters that emerge are not just representations, but forces that connect us with the unknown, that show us that there is much more beyond what we see with the naked eye.
The Galician artist, with a degree in Fine Arts and a solid background in the world of ceramics and illustration, specialises in creating worlds charged with magic and mystery. For her, nature and its symbols are the primary source of inspiration, which translates into images that combine delicacy, longing and mysticism. El Desvelo is a territory where anything is possible: an ambiguous space, where what we feel can be both tender and disturbing.
Figueiredo’s work provokes precisely this mixture of sensations. His pieces do not seek only to dazzle, but to bring us face to face with raw and complex emotions. Is it possible to experience tenderness and rejection at the same time? In his works, the answer is yes, because in this melting pot of feelings lies the true power of his work. It is an art that leaves no one indifferent, that questions certainties and challenges us to look at what we do not usually see.
Nuria Figueiredo is not just another artist. She is a total creator: ceramist, illustrator, mother and cultural manager. Her career ranges from solo exhibitions to her participation in the International Ceramics Biennial in Aveiro (Portugal), the Museum of Pontevedra, and the Afundación gallery in A Coruña and Vigo, among others. In 2020, he won the Novos Valores de Pontevedra competition, a recognition that consolidated his name in the contemporary art circuit.
With El Desvelo, Figueiredo takes us to a place where the limits of reality are blurred. The show invites us to look beyond, to discover what is hidden in plain sight, and to reflect on the ways in which fantasy and magic influence our perception of the world. At a time when everything seems to be within reach, El Desvelo reminds us that there is always something more to discover, a mysterious corner waiting to be unveiled.
If you dare to explore the unknown, El Desvelo is the perfect opportunity to do so. The exhibition will be on view at Échale Guindas Gallery until 8 February 2024. Don’t miss the chance to enter Nuria Figueiredo’s universe and discover what lies hidden in the folds of sleep and wakefulness.
