Oasis’ Liam Gallagher vs. Alcalá Norte: Find out about the beef of the year

Liam Gallagher, always in his provocative and straight to the point style, has once again stirred up controversy in X. The Oasis frontman, who is preparing his return to the stage for the summer of 2025, doesn’t waste any time in his rants, and his latest target? Alcalá Norte. The Madrid band, who are taking their first album by storm, didn’t keep quiet, and what seemed to be a small dispute turned into one of the juiciest beefs of the year.

It all started with a tweet from Gallagher: ‘Unless your guitars and fucking attitude remind me of the best of the past, I don’t give a fuck’. The Briton made it clear that, if you’re not at his level, don’t even bother. Alcalá Norte, with the same brazenness that has made them one of the most powerful bands on the Spanish indie scene, didn’t even think about it for a second. ‘YOUR attitude sucks’ was their response, in capital letters.

And there, of course, Liam wasn’t going to keep quiet. The ‘F*ck you’ came like a kick in the teeth, a Gallagher classic. But, instead of ducking his head, Alcalá Norte took advantage of the snowball to go viral. ‘2025 insulted by Liam, I’ve done all the tweeting for the year, now I can relax in my 56 square metre fucking mansion,’ the band wrote. The tweet was not only a joke, but also a sign that the band is beyond ‘drama’, using hype to continue to conquer the internet.

Alcalá Norte have been the hottest band in Spain this 2024, with a debut that has already been considered one of the best albums of the year. And not only that, they are dominating the festivals, Primavera Sound already has them on their radar, and their name is ringing loud in all indie circles. And of course, what better way to continue capitalising on that attention than with a little beef with one of the biggest icons in rock history?

But beware, this is not the first time that Alcalá Norte has received a gesture of attention from a big name. In May, Rosalía dedicated a surprise birthday message to them on Twitter ‘Feliz día cañónnn’ and even sang their song ‘La vida cañón’ in a couple of audios for their WhatsApp group. The song has accumulated more than 2 million plays on Spotify, and her name is everywhere.

The British singer’s tweet was one of those classic provocations he seems to have fun with: attacking new groups with his arrogant attitude. And of course, Alcalá Norte not only didn’t back down, but turned it into a great moment for their community. ‘I’m the happiest person in the world,’ wrote Pablo, after the insult, confirming what we all thought: his goal was to make Liam deign to respond to him, and boy, did he get it.

‘Now in interviews they’re going to ask me about Liam Gallagher and Rosalía, and they’re going to dehumanise me even more as a human being who feels things beyond this whole Twitter circus. It makes you think’, wrote the bassist, mocking the media phenomenon that has been created around this confrontation. A ‘drama’ that, instead of slowing them down, is pushing them to an even greater level of notoriety.

‘Oasis’ return to the stage is confirmed.
