OTW by Vans collaborates with Beatrice Domond

OTW by Vans and Beatrice Domond have teamed up to design a new model: the OTW by Vans Mary Jane DS by Beatrice Domond, inspired by Beatrice’s personal style and her personal story and skateboarding career.

The OTW by Vans Mary Jane DS by Beatrice Domond fuses the classic Vans Mary Jane model with timeless style, modernised with a sturdy sole and premium leather and suede upper in monochrome black, along with goatskin lining. This design draws influences from Beatrice’s fashion and personal life, including her Haitian family heritage and childhood.

Even the insole of the shoe is customised to Beatrice’s own story, including a map of Haiti digitally printed on the insole as a representation of her family history. The shoe’s packaging is inspired by Vans skateboard boxes and is decorated with Beatrice’s signature and custom logo.

Beatrice revisits her personal history in a short film directed by Sandy Kim and co-directed by Domond and her partner, Z Inwoon, in which she and her grandmother Elise discuss their shared heritage in their hometown of Miami. The film explores Beatrice’s relationship with her family and her perseverance in developing her career, as well as her ongoing quest for deeper self-expression through sport and style.

In the film, Elise recounts Beatrice’s childhood memories in Haitian Creole while Beatrice responds in English, tracing an evolution from her beginnings to her career achievements as a tribute to her grandmother and mother, the women who set her on the path to achieving her dreams.

‘With this project I wanted to show my community another side of me, I don’t think anyone really knows that I have Haitian ancestry,’ says Beatrice Domond. ‘It’s also to pay tribute to my grandmother and my mother because this shoe is something really important to me: if it wasn’t for them, I don’t think I would be having such incredible opportunities.’
