Tom Ford has just announced the imminent departure of Peter Hawkings as creative director of the brand. ‘A successor will be announced shortly,’ said the Zegna Group, suggesting that the decision has already been made. Hawkings has had a distinguished career in the fashion world, beginning his career as Senior Menswear Designer at Gucci, where he worked closely with Tom Ford to design and develop the brand’s men’s collections from 1998 to 2006.
In 2006, Hawkings joined Tom Ford as Design Director of Menswear for his newly created eponymous brand after working together at Gucci. Between 2009 and 2013, he became Design Director of Menswear, Accessories and Eyewear, overseeing all menswear and accessories collections. He then held the position of Senior Vice President of Menswear from 2013 to 2023. That same year Tom Ford left the brand following its sale for $2.8 billion. Hawkings made his debut as creative director and presented his first collection that September at Milan Fashion Week.
‘I would like to express my gratitude to Peter for his exceptional contributions to Tom Ford from the very beginning,’ said Guillaume Jesel, president and CEO of Tom Ford and luxury business development at ELC. The SS25 collection will be presented in the Milan showroom in September 2024. ‘I would like to thank Peter for his collaboration since Tom Ford Fashion became part of the Ermenegildo Zegna Group. Together with his team, Peter has contributed to this important initial phase of development. I wish him all the best in his next chapter,’ added Lelio Gavazza, CEO of Tom Ford Fashion.
Tom Ford’s Spring 2025 collection fuses 1970s aesthetics with 21st century modernity.
