When you think of Coperni, the first thing that comes to mind is technology, innovation… FUTURE. Just think of the dress they created on Bella Hadid’s body in minutes using a spray that turned into a textile. With the same desire to explore unknown territories, the brand directed by Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant collaborates for the first time with PUMA on a shoe that looks to the future: the 90SQR.
Inspired by the PUMA FUTURE football boot, the 90SQR silhouette from the collaboration features a design that draws on high-tech, geometric aesthetics and brutalist architecture. Made from high-performance materials and with a classic shoe aesthetic at the toe, the cross-pollinated design straddles the line between sport and fashion. “From a material standpoint, we stayed very close to the material specifications of high-performance boots. The square toe is the strongest design feature that takes it out of the athletic world because it’s such a classic shape and represents a high-fashion shoe,” explains PUMA Global Creative Director Heiko Desens.
The 90SQR comes in three colour combinations: white, asphalt and crazy yellow, each constructed with ribbon stitching on a mesh base. It’s Coperni’s first trainer to hit the market and is everything its founders have dreamed of for their footwear debut. “We are very proud of this collaboration with PUMA. It’s a big milestone for a designer to launch his first trainer. The 90SQR brings together all our common values: innovation, minimalism, uniqueness. It’s everything we’ve dreamed of, and we hope to launch more PUMA x Coperni pieces in the near future,” said Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant. Quite a statement of intent on how Coperni and PUMA envision the footwear of the future.
Photographed by artist Paul Kooiker, the accompanying campaign images evoke this exploration of the boundaries of technology and fashion, and speak to the elegance of a performance shoe; PUMA and Coperni’s 90SQR design is shown as an earthy shoe. The images reveal the shoe’s geometric and structural beauty alongside the natural contours of the human body.
The PUMA x Coperni 90SQR will be available from January 19, 2024, at Coperni shops, coperniparis.com and on January 22 at selected retailers.
