Rauw and Rosalía broke off their relationship at the end of July, just a couple of weeks ago, when a few months before they had announced their wedding plans. In those days, rumours about the reasons for their goodbye were incessant, but they tried to put an end to them with two communiqués in which they didn’t explain much either, but in which they both showed that they preferred silence.
Until now. The artist from Puerto Rico has released, by surprise, a song that he dedicates in its entirety to Rosalía and where he implies that he didn’t want to end the relationship, that he misses her. Hayami Hana – which in Japanese means rare and beautiful flower – is the title of this new song that the vocalist signs as Raúl, his first name, and not as Rauw, his stage name.
In the song he explains his reasons for breaking up with Rosalía, whom he does not name directly, but whose identity is evident. He refers to her as Motomami, talks about her album Los Ángeles, her Grammy awards, the fact that she has his name tattooed on her and their house together. The artist affirms that “there are no grudges here, this is not a claim”, that he still has feelings for her (“Today I stop writing, not loving you”) and also quashes rumours: “I’ll be many things, but never unfaithful”.
Also that the distance has complicated their relationship, as well as their working careers: “The life we lead is not for everyone, the press, the networks, peer pressure. Being far away makes it harder, easier together. We work non-stop, but to what extent? Being in our little camp is worth more than all the money and fame.
Rauw makes it clear that he misses the singer, from her hugs to sleeping with her, that he has dedicated all his songs to her and that he has spent his best moments with her. “You’re pure joy, you’re medicine”, he sings to her, and hints that he leaves the door open to reconciliation (“if life brings me together with you another time, I won’t argue with fate”) and that he would like to resume the relationship but doesn’t know how (“How can I see the sunrise with you all my life? Mommy, I don’t have the answer to this”). Regarding an alleged infidelity, his justification is that Rosalía “always had the key to my cell”.
In addition to the personal, Rauw praises Rosalía’s talent: “I know you’re going to be the best artist, I really don’t think there’s another one like you […] If just listening to your voice calms the sea from any torment, thousands of people think the same”. He also sees her as an example, someone whose art will be studied “as time goes by”, as well as a winner of “to’ los Grammys”. “And even if they copy you, they will fail in the attempt because only God chooses a few with that talent”.
