REESE COOPER® will debut a new project-based collection, RCI Reserve, as well as the long-awaited collaboration with Merrell 1 TRL.
RCI Reserve is short for the REESE COOPER® Reserve Program. It’s a new but ongoing project where, in simple terms, RC recycle everything they’ve been keeping in their office for the past few years into new garments. With every season comes sampling and production-both cycles result in some leftover materials. This can be fabrics, linings, snaps, zippers, ribbing, eyelets, screens, yarns, cording… the list goes on. Over the past five or so years, REESE COOPER have made it a point to not throw anything out with the goal of finding it a home later down the road.
When designing the first Reserve pieces, RC gave themselves a few rules:
- A fabric cannot be used for the same purpose for which it was originally intended
- No new patterns can be created
- All pieces have to find a way to incorporate a patch pocket made of raw natural canvas
The leather hooded jacket that was previewed earlier this month is a great summary of the project. The leather was left over from the AW22 varsity jacket production run and handbag development. The zipper is from SS22 sampling time period, the hardware is excess from various production circles…
Each piece is finished with the special Reserve label that is created by hand on the day of completion. There is also a new RC Sleeve Patch for new special projects like this, or anything non “mainline”.
In conjunction with the RCI Reserve launch, and to kick off an on-going partnership, REESE COOPER® will release limited pairs of the collaboration with Merrell 1 TRL. Launched in 2020, 1TRL is an exclusive collection of outdoor footwear designed and curated by Merrell. The RCI x 1 TRL partnership has been ongoing since SS22 and will kick off with the release of three silhouettes in two colorways each: MTL MQM, MTL Long Sky 2 and Hydro Runner.
