Reina Sofía allows photographing Guernica after 30 years

The Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid lifts the restriction that prevented visitors from photographing Pablo Picasso’s iconic Guernica.

According to a museum spokesperson in an interview with The Art Newspaper, visitors are now allowed to take photos of Guernica, as long as they do not use flash or stabilizing accessories such as tripods or selfie sticks.

This measure is intended to enhance the visitor experience by allowing visitors to capture this important artwork. “It only takes a few seconds to take a selfie and so the public’s passage will be smoother,” noted another museum representative.

The Reina Sofia’s new director, Manuel Segade, also hopes that this openness to photography will attract a younger audience, who are used to seeing the world through a screen. According to him, it is important to adapt to their way of interacting with reality.

These are the galleries that will be at Art Basel Miami 2023.
