Rels B x Rigido: 50% Mediterranean 50% Atlantic

Rels B x Rigido collection, entitled ‘50% Mediterranean 50% Atlantic’, is inspired by the relationship between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, exploring the unique connection between the two bodies of water. This collaboration is based on the representation of salt and fleur de sel, mineral crystallisations that evoke the geological history of the region. The collection, which was presented at WOW Concept in an exclusive event alongside the Mallorcan artist, is now available at rigidojewerly.com.

There is a fascinating theory about the Mesinian Salinity Crisis, where the Mediterranean Sea was significantly reduced due to the closure of the Strait of Gibraltar, preventing the entry of water from the Atlantic Ocean. This led to the evaporation of large volumes of water and the accumulation of thick layers of salt on the seabed.

During this time, the Mediterranean may have been divided into several salt lakes and dry areas, some of these healthy structures can still be seen in caves and regions of the Mediterranean today. With the movement of tectonic plates and the opening of the Strait of Gibraltar, the Mediterranean returned to the sea we know today.

The collection is based on the representation of salt and fleur de sel, mineral crystallisations that evoke the geological history of the region. Stones have been incorporated to add colour and evoke the stunning sunsets and sunsets that can be enjoyed along the Spanish coastline, as well as dark stones that transport us to the depths of the seabed. The artist’s symbols, along with the aforementioned texture, are also present in this collection.
