The collection revives a design from 1969 and reinterprets it through a new aesthetic lens in which geometry takes centre stage.
At a time when the luxury sector is constantly looking to the future, RIMOWA draws on its history to create Classic Aluminium Grid, a design that reinterprets tradition without breaking with it. Thus, the brand, known globally for its iconic vertical grooves, offers a change of pace: a rigid aluminium surface featuring an embossed grid pattern that completely transforms the perception of its most recognisable silhouettes.
This limited edition comprises three formats that encapsulate RIMOWA’s classic functionality: the Classic Hand-Carry Case, the Classic Cabin and, as a new addition to this range, a Classic Trunk that takes the concept into the realm of collectibles.
Inside, the geometric pattern is carried over to a padded lining that replicates the exterior grid, creating a visual continuity that reinforces the concept. This interplay between exterior and interior underscores the brand’s obsession with detail, where every element serves a very specific purpose. On a technical level, the codes that have defined the Classic series remain intact: high-gloss palladium fittings, rivets inspired by aeronautical engineering and a telescopic handle with continuous adjustment. However, it is the details that complete the new narrative. The blue leather handles and luggage tags introduce a colour contrast that ties in with RIMOWA’s historic colour palettes.
The “Classic Aluminium Grid” collection will be available from 26 March.
