Sabrina Carpenter releases ‘Man’s Best Friend’

The most provocative and magnetic voice in contemporary pop returns with her seventh studio album.

As she herself had revealed, “Man’s Best Friend” combines irony, vulnerability and cheekiness in 12 songs that turn heartbreak into a cause for celebration. In her own words, the album is not ‘suitable for sensitive listeners’, as its lyrics are loaded with explicit sexuality, uncomfortable confessions and daring humour that plays on making people feel uncomfortable.

The production is co-written with Jack Antonoff and John Ryan, and features a tracklist that ranges from wild pop to introspective ballads. The first single, “Manchild”, served as a prelude to understanding the narrative: Sabrina as an empowered nomad, capable of transforming love into a sarcastic weapon.

True to her provocative style, the cover caused quite a stir: she is on all fours while a man pulls her hair. For some, it is a regressive image; for others, a satirical gesture that subverts the male gaze. Far from detracting from her work, this controversy reinforced her narrative as an artist who is not afraid to make people uncomfortable or push boundaries.

‘The album is a real party for the heartbroken, a celebration of disappointment,’ she says.
